A STAR IS BORN
Glass is Hot at WMODA! See for yourself at this gem of a museum in Dania Beach, near Fort Lauderdale. The Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts is a world-class museum celebrating the Fired Arts of ceramics and glass. The collection showcases the finest British pottery and porcelain from the last two centuries, including Wedgwood and Royal Doulton, as well as European designers from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.
Art on Fire
The Hot Glass Gallery features amazing works of art by many of the world’s leading glass masters. The Art on Fire exhibit is dominated by the work of Dale Chihuly and his collaborators including the Venetian maestros Lino Tagliapietra and Pino Signoretto. The exhibition also celebrates the creative exuberance of Chihuly’s students, such as William Morris and Toots Zynsky. Together they have pushed the sculptural potential of glass and redefined glass as an art form.
Visitors are star-struck with the new installation of Windstars by Rob Stern, who studied with Chihuly and the Italian and Czech glass masters. Rob, who works in Miami, is known particularly for his blown glass star sculptures, which are dedicated to his father, a consummate stargazer fascinated by cosmic phenomena. Rob’s latest Aurora star in his Constellations exhibit changes color with LED light technology. Coming down to earth, Rob also enjoys the minutiae of nature and studies leaves, seed pods, shells, and coral heads for his brilliant glass sculptures. In Rob’s words, “When I started working with glass, I began to look at the world in a different way.”
Fused together through a passion for glass…
