If you are of a certain age, you have seen Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz and heard her sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Judy was a talented child star, similar to Mickey Rooney, Shirley Temple and Elizabeth Taylor. Unfortunately, her life did not end up benefiting from her acting and singing career. The movie brought Judy Garland’s life up front and center, played masterfully by Renée Zellweger. It was heavy on her early years as a child actress and how she was strongly managed using pills to keep her up and then down, dieting and working her many hours to keep her name in lights.
Unfortunately in later life, Judy succumbed to pharmaceuticals and alcohol to deal with her depression about her family situation. Although she was successful in her acting and singing ability, she did not manage her fnancials and was practically destitute. It was painful to see how she went from one disaster to another. Renée Zellweger must have spent many hours watching Judy’s movies as she portrayed her life as real as one can imagine.
If you are a fan of both Judy Garland and Renée Zellweger, I suggest you see the movie. It is a tearjerker!
