The cover states: 8 Scientific Secrets to a Younger, Sharper Mind. So who wouldn’t want that?As I began to read this small hardbound, beautifully illustrated book,I was mesmerized by the exciting and new information written on each page. Unless you are a scientist, one typically doesn’t read about neurons, neurotransmitters, cognitive ability and other brain functions, but all of a sudden you are captured with amazing ideas and suggestions of how to make your brain function at an optimal range.

The author, Dr. Bardsley, has to be admired for his passion and openness to share his journey of what he had, growing up with what was called intellectual disability (ID), which turned out to be a misdiagnosis. His parents never gave up on him as a child and through support and encouragement, discovered he suffered from Tourette’s syndrome and ADHD. The proof is the outcome that Dr. Bardsley earned a BS, MS, DDS and a fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

It is this journey that has created the desire to educate society on what they can do to enhance the quality of their lives, in the field of brain health. After reading how positive he is about exercise to keep our brains healthy, he now has a convert…me! His explanations are clear and straight forward, and he makes it easy to jump on the trampoline of what and how easy it will be if you are dedicated to attain keeping your mind sharp and clear.

Dr. Bardsley uses the term “Mild Cognitive Impairment” referring to those “senior moments” we often find ourselves experiencing. He explains that they occur as an overall decrease in the areas of cognitive functioning such as memory, language, thinking and judgment. Too often people call these “senior moments” the beginning of Alzheimer’s disease. He shares examples of Mild Cognitive Impairment: Train of Thought;Dates and Events; Objects; Directions; Information; Impulsivity and others. He explains the causes and gives you suggestions for improvement.

Smarter Next Year is the book you have been waiting for. If you have doubted about physical exercise being the “be all and end all” for good health, and wellness of your brain, you will be convinced as I am that it should be the mecca of our lifestyle. There should be no excuses…none! Our bodies are waiting and crying out for physical activity.

I have read so much in the areas of mental decline but find this book explaining it in such readability that people will be able to be “Smarter Next Year” if they follow his advice. Some of the fascinating areas were not only the actual contents but the long list of recommended reading in the back. One could get a PhD if they read what he suggested.

When you purchase this beautifully bound, colorful book, and read its effectiveness, you will want to buy more for gifts
